One of our most popular services here at JC Plastering and Lime is that of our decorating work – in particular our breathable painting services. We offer our painting services to the external areas of any property with the use of Silicate paint and Limewash. If your property needs an external ‘revamp’, this service is the best thing for you. It offers the opportunity to increase significant value to any property, by making the external walls look significantly better.

Our breathable painting services:

  • Can conceal any cracks, uneven walls or scars.
  • Can be painted at any time of year (depending on weather systems).
  • Once dried, can resist all kinds of weather systems.
  • Wont fade, chip, crack or peel.
  • Can be guaranteed the same quality for at least 20 years.

As mentioned before, the two products we use for our painting services are Silicate paint and Limewash, which are both extremely durable and of the highest quality. Limewash is a traditional coating which provides a breathable decorative finish, which soaks into the materials to which it is applied to. It is composed of materials such as Calcium Hydroxide, along with organic binders such as Tallow. These materials produce an insoluble bond, which allows the mixture to stick to any structure significantly better. Silicate paint on the other hand, have a stronger lasting bond with the material to which it is applied to. This is due to the fact that it has a high contents of zinc in them, which acts as a mineral bonding agent. The result of using silicate paints produce a highly stable, light, fast and durable coating – which has a significantly long-lasting colour. Silicate paint can also be known as material paint or silicate material paint, which is more popular. Apart from being extremely durable, Silicate paint is extremely breathable, which can also be resistant to various weather systems (e.g. acid rain), mould growth and even fire.

But which is better out of the two?

At JC Plastering and Lime, we offer the use of both painting methods, so the decision is completely up to you in which you would prefer to use. Traditionally, limewash can be seen as a more economical option when choosing paint, as Silicate paints contain far more chemicals such as Zinc. The main difference between the two paints is the durability. Mineral Silicate paints usually are said to last 4-6 times longer than using traditional limewash paints. Another main difference between the two paints is the colouring. The limewash coating we offer comes as a natural white colour, which has a matte, chalky appearance. It can be coloured with pigments, however not to any bright, luminous colours (if this is what you desire).
